glassing disaster pt.2

just glassed the deck of my first board - one layer of 4, one layer of 6.

came out with a lot of big spots on the where the bottom 4oz was saturated, but the 6oz didn’t bond bond with it (kinda like a delam). I guess this is called a “dry lam.”

anyhow, it looks like cutting/re-laminating the areas is out of question, because some areas seem to be semi-bonded with the 4oz, so i would be cutting through to the foam.

So i guess the solution is to thin out the lam resin and try to push some through, but how is it thinned? Styrene?

…if you close inspection, other problem will show up: lot of tiny bubbles between both layers.

so, the best BUT super difficult way, is to sand everything down with 60 grit

first do a very thin hot coat, then sand everything

how can stop? well, check with styrene. still see the bubbles? continue with the sanding. Styrene again; check…and so on

when you finish, you ll got a very good platform without any bubbles.

so you ll put other layer and then H Coat as usual.

be careful with the sander
