Glassing My First Board

Hey Everyone,

It’s been a slow process but i’m done shaping my first board. It’s 9’2" . It came out alright … i’m proud though!

I’m going to head down to Mitch’s to buy glassing materials. I’m concerned though with how much resin i actually need? Do they sell laminating and sanding resin? or do i have to put wax in the laminating resin to make it sandable?

What would be some good amounts of resin?

Also is 2 layers of 6 oz. on top and one layer of 6 oz. on bottom the way to go?

Any advice on glassing? Tips? Hints? Words of Wisdom?

Howzit barrel, Go with 1 layer 6oz on bottom and 4oz and 6oz on deck.Aloha,Kokua

i went with two 6 oz. on the top.

i’m gonna laminate the bottom now… here goes nothing!

that was fun!

I really enjoyed laminating the bottom …

I think it turned out okay … hopefully no major problems occur while it’s hardening

How long do i wait until i can start sanding or using a surform to take down the edge? Until it’s completely hard?

Howzit barrel, Normally you glass the bottom first. Glassing the deck first can some times cause the board to twist because of the resin shrinkage which is around 6% with poly, but hopefully you won’t have that problem. Aloha,Kokua

that’s what i did, maybe i said something different.

thanks for the help though

i’m going to lam the top today
