Glassing on A Saturday Afternoon In San Diego

As a first attempt at organizing a Swaylock’s monthly seminar/tip-trading session/post-surfing-get-together, LeeV and I are planning to have an afternoon of glassing in San Diego on April 24th. Can handle 1/2 dozen or so people and will hopefully do a couple of layups. If you’re interested, respond here, we’ll see what it turns into.

I am, of course, very interested. That is very cool of you and Lee to do for us beginners…Thanks. Count me in.

I’m interested.

I am also interested.

Anyone interested in carpooling from the LA area?

Hey Keith, I’d love the opportunity to watch, tenover told me about this event and if there’s still room I can ride with him…

      thanx Johnny.........

No problem on the space – however, because of scheduling complications, Lee V and I are both leaning toward doing this one week later, i.e. on Sat, May 1st. Hope that works for everybody…

If the wifes off then count me in, other wise I’ll see you in the water…

thanx Johnny…

oh events…I just posted on the swaylix page a thought form if you wanna read some brain drippings…ambrose… just a little slow…

Count me in if you can spare room for another person. I have admired many of the boards that you have posted here on Swaylocks and would be very interested in sitting in. I have glassed a small number of boards and am always eager to learn more.

I would love to come to this event, Lee I’m back in town from Cabo.

See you then Mark Scott

Hey Keith-

Are you going to be doing an entire lamination and hotcoat? If so, are you planning on just a standard clear/free lap job?

Thanks,

Scott

Thought I’d do a cut lap on one board, maybe color on the 2nd board if I get it shaped in time. Other options (you guys tell me what you think) include, hands-on layup practice (I have some broken board/foam chunks that you guys could work on, then chuck in the trash), putting in leash plugs/fin plugs, tool demos, glass on fins ?? What sounds most useful to you?

PS bring a respirator if you have one. I have 3 but there will be more people than that, obviously.

That sounds great! Hey- My little fish is ready to go if you want to use it for your “Tint Demo” Is it going to be an all day event pretty much, and what time are you looking at starting?

We’re going to start at 11 am, that seemed to work out best. Bring your fish if you wish… If you don’t have fins for it yet, I can show you how to make some keels.

I don’t think it will be all-day, we need to leave time for surfing afterwards…

I have installed fin boxes and leash plugs before but have not attempted glass-on fins. Would be interested in seeing that done.

Thanks

I could show you how to do glass ons if you wanted. Just get the rope from Mitch’s, or we could pull 6oz strings. UV lam resin good too.

Sounds like a resin sniffing good time

I would love to come over and play too if there is room. I dont have much to contribute due to this whole college thing but i would love to come and learn a few tricks. It sounds like this will be the best class i have taken all year. I can’t wait. Darren

Darren, we will make room. See you then.

Bring a respirator if you have one (if you don’t you should probably buy one sooner or later!)

I do have some glass on fins, we can put them on the tow board unless someone else brings a board along that is ready to glass.

I could bring my fish to glass, but I wanted to do a nice tint job on it, and I don’t know if “we” would have the time to do something like that…? It’s up to you Keith/resinhead…I don’t mind one way or the other. But if I do end up bringing it, NO ONE CAN LAUGH…

We wouldn’t have time to do all of it, that’s certain. Probably would have time to do part, if you’re interested. Resinhead says “no purple or dark red tints!” so what color were you thinking?
