Glassing on A Saturday Afternoon In San Diego

oh, I imagine we will. Not sure exactly when, though. Probably after SA 2004… so, October mebbe?

might have to change the subject matter a bit though.

Maybe we should have a pinlining session.

Or fin-making. Or airbrushing.

Whatever folks want.

I think we could make a whole day out of making fins and installing different fin systems, including FCS, fin boxes, glass-ons, etc…We could discuss the merits of toe-in, cant, placement as well. I think we’d all learn ALOT doing that!

You know what… I’d even make the trip from the east coast to attend another one of these. If another one is happening in Oct / Nov I’m there. I’ve got family in Orange County and they’re due visit.

OK. How about a Halloween shaping or glassing session? We can all make orange & black resin tint boards…

Seriously, how does that weekend sound for people? Then we can have a Swaylocks Halloween Surf Party afterwards…

Sounds good to me. Let’s plan on it.

I’m in. We could do all kinds of scarry stuff with foam and resin. Maybe I’ll glue some foam together and carve & glass a pumpkin?

Yeah yeah! And I’ll bring some dry ice to put in the bottom of the shaping stands so it looks scary while we’re working!

Dry Ice? It ALREADY looks scary when all you guys are there!

OK, any other takers?

We HAVE to do a Halloween resin tint board. Maybe with green fins…

Ok I will be there

I have a special board to shape I will post a picture later.

Mark

How about a surf session geared towards in water board swaps and

talking about design aspects of boards? Would love to get feed back

on my board and try some other boards. (something I was hoping to

do at SA but with the family, conditions and time it did not work out)

I’d also like to talk about sanding techniques. Maybe a hotcoat/glosscoat

sanding session?

Hey 4est! As you can see from the posts above, we are having a shape-a-thon/glass-a-thon/mini-Swaylockstock on Halloween weekend. Seems like these things work better on Saturdays so it will actually be the day before Halloween (Oct. 30). We will start a little earlier than before (let’s say 10AM) because there is a low tide in the afternoon, that will allow us to all go out for a surf and wash the dust off too! Perhaps we should follow that up with some beer & BBQ, eh?

I am sure some hot coat sanding is in order; bring your respirator if you want to be close to (or in) the action.

Keith if you have any extra room i would love to come over and play in your backyard again. I learned a lot of good glassing tips last time. Darren

Plenty of room, glad to have you!

I have at least 3 sets of racks and a new shade tarp so there’s more room than ever.

Also have my spray gun up and working if anyone wants to paint…

OOOOoooo…This is gonna be fun.

I feel inspired to the tune of Black and Orange resin with Green pinlines.

I sense the presence of the Great Pumpkin.

Good grief, Charlie Brown!

Hmm, clearly I need to stock up on orange & green paint…

Halloween Death Boards - I love it. We need skull stencils, for sure. I was just about to do archive research on glassing too… how very convenient…

Keith, I’d love to come by again to snake knowledge off y’all if there’s still room. Lemme know if you need folks to bring supplies (beer, dogs, resin, pigment - you know, the usual BBQ stuff).

Hey Matt, glad to have you. Beer & food always welcome, resin & pigment too. (But no, we’re not making orange beer that way!)

Hey Matt,

Did you ever find out what happened to that dude you guys jump-started on the beach?

Hey Keith,

I’d like to attend. I’ve not shaped a board in about 12yrs, but I still got a planer and a few other tools. But if I came I’d be most interested in shaping a ploystyrene blank that I could later on put a balsa composite skin on. But I could bring a pump, hose and fitting for bagging. Need to get some bag material though. But the pump could be used by anyone needing it. But I’d need templates for shaping a blank if others could share. Can I buy one of these polystyrene blanks somewhere with a rocker and stringer built into it already so I had a head start for the day?
