glassing on hold

can I wait a day or two between glassing the top and glassing the bottom or am I asking for trouble?

can I wait a day or two between glassing the top and glassing the bottom > or am I asking for trouble? No problem really that I know of waiting. In fact from what I have experienced in the surfboard industry we wait all the time cause when the waves get good… you all know the story. The only thing to consider is placement of the board to ensure it stays clean and does not get any dings. Happy glassing and wear your mask. Quashi surfboards http://www.quashi.com

can I wait a day or two between glassing the top and glassing the bottom > or am I asking for trouble? …naw, you can wait…but the faster you can get things done the better the board usually comes out.Sitting around ,especially with the foam or lam exposed will attract crap, and might make a rather flawless board, a spotty mess. …If you plan on storing it for more than a couple days ,go get some long(est) dry cleaner bags(just pay/beg for them at the dry cleaners, ask for the 6 footers),and cover your unfinished work with them. This will keep those bugs, and airborne crud from messing up a goo thing.Herb

Speaking of airborne crap. I let one sit for 4-5 days on time (weekend to weekend). When I came back I found that a crow had gotten in my lam room and danced around and crapped on the side I had just glassed. To make matters worse he must have been pretty agitated about being trapped ‘cause he knocked the whole 9’ board off the glassing T’s onto the floor. The bird crap came off OK, but the trip to the floor put my fist ding in the board before I even got it glassed. I like to get boards hot coated before I do any stalling. Aloha, Kokua

Herb, I’ve asked you questions before on here about shaping and such and you seem to know pretty well what you are doing. I am usually shaping shortboards and funshapes and am going to do my first longboard. I have a 9’9" blank and want to make a classic 9’6" shape or so. If you’ve got a couple of minutes I would really appreciate you throwing out a couple of measurements for me for middle width, the nose and tail width, thickness etc. Thanks alot for all of your help. Nick

Thanks that helps, I was thinking more of a noserider type shape, which is kind of what you described there right? And it will be probably for the weight range of 175-190 intermediate skill level. Thanks Nick>>> …I can give you generals, but I really need to know what you expect > from the board(noseyrider, highperformer, cruiser, etc). The basics too!like > size of rider, and skills.>>> … general numbers = 18-1/2" nose, 23"wide,15"tail > in a rounded pintail, 3-1/2", thick center point up 4" 60/40 > rails.Herb

Thanks>>> Nick …The numbers I gave you are for a classic cruiser/nose rider type. These numbers have done me right every time,I have a few on the board page ,under the 9 footers, take a look.Herb
