glassing weight

I’m ready now to laminate my 7’2’’ hollow wooden board. But I have a question: how much more weight can I expect for the lamination if it is:

two 4 oz top, one 4 oz bottom

two 6 oz top, one 6 oz bottom

maybe one 6 oz top, one 4 oz bottom?

(…all using epoxy resin…)

and how much resin will I use to get the job done?

which is the best combination for a light yet durable board? I’m a little worried about adding too much weight to the board.

thanks in advance. any comment is welcome.

Youre in luck…I just glassed a board today and weighed before and after each step.

Board is a 6’10 x 19 semi-gun and I used polyester resin…I have also done epoxys in the past and you should get similar results…the big diff is the cloth and number of layers. I used suncure resin so that I can really work/squeegee all the resin out…my glass jobs tend to be light. I used an accurate Chatillon spring scale with a 1/16 pound resolution to measure.

In summary:

each 4oz layer adds about 3/4 pound

Each thin hot coat layer adds 1/2 pound

But again I agressively take out as much resin as I can.

S-cloth is very strong but is more expensive than E. You can use the number of layers you need for your goals. The typical shortB gets two 4oz layers top, one 4oz bottom. More durable would be 6oz+4oz top and 6oz bottom.

good luck
