glassing

How much does it cost to send a shaped board in to a glassing place to be glassed? and does anyone know any around or in San Diego?

Thanks!

From what I have been told from about $100 to $150. Not exactly sure though.

I just dropped a couple boards off at Sugarmill Glassing in Oceanside. And I know there is Moonlight Glassing in San Marcos. I’m sure there are other places closer to San Diego than these though. As for price I think I pay $130 for shortboards.

How do you transport finished blanks? Do you do a little touch-up once you get them there?

I have a hard time moving my boards from my patio (where I shape) to my garage (where I glass) without messing something up.

First I stick them in a bag, two trash bags works, then put them in my car, very carefully with towels in between. Sometimes I bump them on something and it leaves a little dent but I don’t worry about it and they always come out fine. Usually not even noticable.

So to answer your question, very carefully.

It helps to have a truck or van with a ton of space to put all the blanks and protection.

Also, glassing your own boards doesn’t hurt

As for shipping - you DONT EVER SHIP blanks that have been shaped - it just isnt going to work.

Sure you can ship shaped blanks, Foss Foam used to send shaped blanks to the east coast in the 60’s
