glassing?

i was just wondering why dont we reverse glass boards ie. glass the top first and clean up the shitty laps we all have probs with on the bottom as all us newer shapers like to keep the nice sprays we do on the top. this may be a stupid question, but i had to ask it! [blush]) thanks paul

Me and a friend just reversed resin slpashed my new bored justh the other day. It turned out great. I bet it is just a matter of personal preference.

I’ve done reverse laps for years on deck airbrushed boards. That’s my prefered method.

i think it would be better for that reason but will it not add weight to the board and the fact that you have to glass 3 times to get the deck up to 2 layers? i know this was discussed a while ago and there were some reasons why it wasnt feasable? but i cant find anything in the archives. thanks paul

When you glass the deck the first layer is trimmed flush to the rail and the second is the overlap. Therefore normally only one layer is lapped. R.B.

but wouldn’t this leave a line on the rail?

Howzit pauluk, if you glass with volan you will probably get a visible line but not with silene fiberglass. But what the heck,I don’t think it would be so visible to make a big difference especially if it your own board.Aloha, Kokua

Tucking under laps with two layers is really tricky. Some of the old sixties long boards were done like this and if you look closely you will see tons of pin air.Just my humble opinion. R. Brucker

so couldnt i just glass from top to bottom 1 layer, bottom to top 1 layer then a inlay of glass on top deck though this would add more resin.
