Gloss coat or not

Talking w/ a shaper about going 6+6+6 top 6+4 bottom with epoxy on my new longboard. Do I gloss coat or not? It’s an extra $40. The shaper is being very nuetral, friends {polyester guys} say yes, but what do you think?

$40 for a gloss coat on a longboard is a great price. Around here gloss and polish on 7 foot and under is $50 or $60. Many (including me) believe that gloss adds to the lifetime of a board by closing pores in the glass job and preventing wicking where cloth was sanded into. Some feel that the extra weight is an issue but with triple six deck and a triple bottom I suspect the extra quarter pound or so is not an issue. Besides - gloss is really sexy. Kinda like a well oiled bikini model. Move over honey, your gettin’ oil on my Vee …
