How do you keep the gloss from pooling in the concave?
How do you keep the gloss from pooling in the concave? … UV activated resin… fare out with squeeg… bring out in full sun fast?
… UV activated resin… fare out with squeeg… bring out in full sun > fast? … wait sorry you said gloss that would not be UV acting never mind …
Hey Slim. If you brush out your gloss right it won’t pool at all. I take three passes; the first to spread the resin, the second to even it out, and the third light pass to clean it up. This explanation is pretty vague but it’s hard to explain in words. Good luck.
Slim your leaving to much gloss on the bottom if its filling in your concaves… #1 cover the bottom with gloss making sure all the bottom is covered. #2 make a few more passes to pull extra off… #3 Cross stroke side to side across the bottom. #4 now with a light touch from nose to tail do your final strokes to even out the cross strokes. Doing this should remove any extra gloss that would pool in the concaves…>>> Hey Slim. If you brush out your gloss right it won’t pool at all. I think some builders don’t realize that when doing the last strokes it’s important to apply the same amount of pressure to the brush strokes, especially the last time. Aloha, Kokua
I know to leave it thin but I’ve got a bad habit of sanding throught the gloss (except in concaves).
Howzit Chris, Actually there is UV glossing resin available. Aloha, Kokua Thanks Kokua, I supply up at Fiberglass Hawaii in Santa Cruz. Gabe and Dave C. tell me that they don’t make or sell it. Who do you get uv glossing resin from? Thanks in advance !
i read before, maybe in the archives…cross stroke twice???

Howzit Cris, I don’t use it but a fellow glasser uses it, I’ll get the source for you. He gets his materials from F.G. Hawaii like the rest of us, so Until you said F.G.Hawaii in Santa Cruz doesn’t carry it I would’ve thought they did. Aloha, Kokua

Aloha, Kokua I agree with Rob and Kokua…its hard to explain. Its a feel that you get.On my last lengthwise passes I am holding the brush with just my fingertips on the metal ferule…applying little or no pressure, just the weight of the brush in a fairly slow even motion. The guy who taught me use to say “Looky here Kook you aint no damn house painter…spread it out even.”…R. Brucker

Howzit Mr. Clean, I know what you mean, the 3 months leading up to my first lamination I never got a dime. I had to get a job doing gel coat repair at Columbia Yachts so I could at least eat and have a roof over my head but I was at the shop after work every day putting in my time. Talk about a pissed off girl friend. Aloha, Kokua
