how do i get the gloss finish on my board?
with gloss resin. and some sanding. and some polish.
do you paint it on or do you spread it on with a squeegy?
add styrene and wax. brush on with a 4" brush. sand to at least 600 wet.
there’s some good videos on Harbour’s website.
Aloha HoppaBros.!
Search in the archives, there are VERY GOOD info! Try to find a Lokbox Post, i think it was under the search from “sanding tips”…it was AWESOME!
Google is another source of good videos, try in video.google the search for “glass surfboard”…maybe thats usefull.
Good luck!
Poly or epoxy??
heres some gerneral info.
Keep every thing clean and dust free, thats the room, the board the contaner, everything.
Sand the board to 100 grit no more, tapr the rail apex.
Make sure the board is level (use a spirit level on the racks and the board).
Use a tack cloth to remove dust and then a solvent (dna for epx, acetone for poly) to remove oil from finger prints,
Apply the resin woth a 4" brush, you need enough resin so that it and flow and self levels.
Brush on lengh ways, brush cross ways, allow to level, brush at 45 degrees, then in the opersite 45 degrees, then length ways very lightly, allow the resin to level for 60 secs between each change in direction.
Then walk away, shut the room off and dont let any one in then, once kicked go pull the tape.
repeat on the other side, you’ll be left with a line on the apex of the rail that will need to be taken down,
Then sand through the grits to 1000, use a rubbing compound then wax and buff.
Howzit woody, In stead of using a tack cloth I suggest washing the board with soap and water then rinsing off real good then let dry before glossing. This way after the rinse if you see any spots that the water is disapating off then that is where contamination is and you can use some acetone to wipe those spots then rewash and check for more contaminated spots. Use a spray nozzle when rinsing to get all the sanding dust out of any pin holes left in the sanding job. I have used this technique for forever and it never fails to produce a good gloss job.Aloha,Kokua
