Glossing question

Hey guys/galz,

I have finished glassing my first ever board. Its got one more step to go before it catches some waves. It needs to be glossed but this board cost me wayy more then I thought it would. I would like to know if I can get away with glossing my board with the epoxy I use to glass it. Its a East system epoxy mixed 5:1 and takes a full day to actually harden (starts gelling after like 5 hrs). Im just looking to smoothen the surface more since I can slightly feel the pattern of the glass weaves. Im not looking for a mirror looking finish or anything, just a smoother finish. So can I get away with it?

Thanks,

Jakub

should be okay… use a soft 4 inch brush to spread it out and run in long strokes to get rid of excess resin

tape it off at the rail

it probably wont polish very well but you can get a better finish

Awesome! Thanks man.

May I add that you may want to wait a week before polishing so the epoxy is fully cured

Alright so I have it glossed and finished (finally). The board weighs exactly 7 pounds. The board is 6’ 5"x19 1/2x2 1/2. This board is stringer less and shaped from insulation foam so I had to do a double 6oz glass job top and bottom. What does a board with these dimensions typically weigh? Also is there any benifits to a heavier board (cant think of any).

Thanks,

Jakub
