i just need a quick answer. i am doing a gloss coat with silmar resin. 10-12% for the sytrene? this is for reg. resin, not gloss resin. do you need to add styrene for gloss resin?

The way I understand this Teddy is that you are doing a cheater gloss coat,in other words you don’t have gloss resin but rather lam resin. For a quart of resin add around 35cc of wax solution(surfacing agent) to a quart. The wax solution is styrene with wax added…in other words you do not have to add styrene. It is just the same as a hotcoat. It will be ok for a sanded finish but it won’t polish out like true gloss resin. As for your last question regarding true gloss resin you sometimes have to add styrene if it is old. This question pops up a lot…If you want a true high polish you need Reichold or Silmar gloss resin…there is no cheating that I know of.In my opinion polishing is waste of time unless you are building boards that are going into a show room.
anyone else?
