Aloha,
after getting inspired by chippys glow in the dark fins [thanks for that] I started a research on getting the glow powder in germany [wasn’t that easy]. Didn’t really know how to use it but we are often surfing when it’s dark with a generator and some floodlights [stationary river wave]. So wouldn’t it be cool to have a board that glows in the dark?
Well, I just went for it. I’ve laminated 1x4 bottom and 2x4 top and a second bottom layer will be added today.
My problem: Fluorescent pigment needs a lot more resin than my opaque pigment. I used 300 ml mixed with the pigment but that was way too less… Luckily I use epoxy with 1 hour cure time so mixing a second batch was no problem. Knowing that I do a second bottom layer I didn’t mix pigment in the second batch just to get sure I don’t screw the lamination. It still came out really nice, it’s a glow in the dark swirl now
Top went better, it’s still not the same glowing effect everywhere but I like it.
Also the real check can’t be done until I finish the board and put it in the sun. My flashlight is surely not the best light to load the pigments.
I tried to make pictures, but my cam is too bad. Hope to get them on sunday when my girlfriend is coming over with her cam.
Pretty stoked how it’ll come out
