going to puerto vallarta

Can I take my 10’0" longboard to P.V. on Mexicana Airlines?

They tell me max. is 62".Don’t they allow anything more than carry on size?

im going too!..in june, im just gonna take a surfmat i think, maybe a paipo…i heard its quite a drive for the big beachbreaks…im happy with mushy points…

anyone want to recomend some spots?

You need to call the airline; the rules change from year-to-year. You can likely rent a longboard in Sayulita if the airline will not transport the board. If that is too frustrating for you, pay to change your flight to Ixtapa and surf Saladita - a perfect left point for longboarding (where you can also rent a longboard).

Have fun.

Many airlines also take windsurfers… hint they are typically quite long and heavy… hint

Pta. Mita spots and Sayulita will be your PV surf zone. Sayulita is not an over thrilling wave so a rental would be fine, Pta Mita has better waves with great south exposure but i’m not first hand familiar. I think the name of the Sayulita local surf shop/school was “El Tigre”, might check with them for details.

There are numerous rentals all over the beach at Sayulita, El Tigre had the best selection. Suprisingly good boards. It is like Waikiki, if it is small everyone wants to give surf lessons. Can be crowded. Fun place to hang out but surfing is ancillary. The old Villa Vallata or whatever they are calling that all inclusive always seems to have waves. All the builiding in Punta Mita is astounding if you have not been there in awhile. You never know about the surf.

I got bad info the first time I called the airline (62"),so I called later and was told it would be $75.00,any length.I think I’ll be renting just to avoid the hassle.Need info for waves around Nayarit.

Howzit cmp, Did you ask if the fee was for each way? The last time I went to Xtapa they only charged for 1way. They didn't charge us on the way down but did on the way back.Aloha,Kokua

Yes I did and he said it was 75 each way at the departing airport.
