good dimensions for a classic shaped 10'6"?

looking for a classic sixties style longboard shape any help with dimensions appreiciated. [blush]) thanks

Hi pauluk, I like an outline that’s around 10’6 x 17 1/2 x 23 1/4 x 15 1/4 x 3 1/4, with the widepoint exactly at center. If you want something a little bigger, I have measurements for an 11’2 template with a 17" nose…you’re welcome to it. With a board this big you want to make sure you have a fin that will drive it. Fibre Glas Fin Co makes a template called the “Sparky” in the 11" size. You can order through Fiberglass Supply or directly through Larry Allison.

thanks ghunt the biggest blank i can get at the moment is a 10’7 clark, i wanted the 11’2 but they wont have it for a few months. do you have a full template for the 10’6? thanks paul

I’ve had two 11’3s on order for a while. My understanding is Clark Foam ran out of cedar in that length. Along with that, I believe they only make a few moulds at a time, so sometimes it’s a long wait for that size. Yes, I have a 10’6 template, but you should wait for the 11’3 to become available again if that’s what you really want. I think it’s back to a 2 week wait now that the moulds are being made again.

Try out this half template for a 10’6 pintail. For whole numbers, multiply by 2. The widepoint is basically at center. Outline dimensions are 10’6 x 17.5 x 23.25 x 15.25. Measure 127 in., start at the nose and work down to the tail. Total Length 127"; 3 in 4 13/16"; 6 in 6 3/4"; Nose 8 3/4" 2 ft 10 7/16"; 3 ft 11 1/4"; 4 ft 11 9/16"; 5 ft 11 5/8"; 6 ft 11 1/2"; 7 ft 11 1/8"; 8 ft 10 3/8"; 9 ft 9 1/16"; Tail 7 5/8"; 10 ft 7 7/8"; 124" 3 5/8"; 127" 0"

I’m not sure. For this template I usually shape a rounded bottom board. With gravity on your side, a board this size just plows through the water. Take some time to consider rocker and rails. If there’s not enough nose rocker the thing will pearl easily when dropping in. Too much and you’re pushing too much water. You also want some flip in the tail to assist with turning the thing. I think you’d be fine with 50/50 rails, but you may want to bring them down near the tail. Like a transition from 50/50 in the middle to down rails at the tail. How does that sound?
