Good Video Editing Software??

Don’t wanna spend $600 for the pro stuff. Anything good up to $200? Already have very powerful audio PC with Pro Tools for original soundtracks. Have dual 19" LCD’s. Have a good Sony camcorder with firewire out. What editing software is decent and will do the job? I’m currently in the midst of filing footage for a surf video.

for editing basic surf movies: Adobe Premiere Elements: $134.95 at Super Warehouse

im getting my camera later this month. if your in school or happen to be some sort of educator hit adobe up for an educators’ licensed edition of premiere, like $250.

Adobe Premiere is a really great tool … You need a decent computer to use it though. Tons of RAM, HD space and good processor speed and you’ll be just fine.

I have a new P4, 3.0 Ghz, 1GB of DDR RAM, 120 GB internal HDD, 180 GB external HDD, 8 USB ports, a Firewire port, Dual video ports, DVD burner, CD-RW, etc, etc. Should do the job.

Yup should do the job. You’ll be surprised though how fast you burn through all that memory. Personally I use Finalcut proHD but now we’re opening a whole new debate. You’ll get along fine with premiere. What camera are you using to shoot with?

That should definitely do that job … have fun

For basic movies Pinnacle Studio is much cheaper and easier to use and less buggy.

Finalcut pro was used to make Napoleon Dynamite…but that is like $1k.

For the ultra basic, I use iMovie. On windows you have Window Movie Maker, which can also do the most basic editing, free. If you want slow-motion or special effects beyond titling you’ll need more. But Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro are more like studio tools than home use tools.

Well, i know this is Swaylocks, but i have a problem that can fit on this thread.

First my two cents are that Adobe Premiere is a good professional tool and Pinnacle is easier and faster, as Blakestah said. I would consider Avid Xpress also, it’s a great professional tool and i think it’s cheaper than A. Premiere.

No my problem is that i have a lot of Hi8 and VHS tapes that i want to copy on DVD, most of the video is surfing and old surf videos. So i searched on the web and found that a lot of people said that the Pinnacle DC30 card (with it’s Blue Box) was the best solution to digitalize analog video. I bough one of those cards at a really good price on Ebay, and now my problem is that i can’t make it work with Windows XP. Maybe i try a driver and the OS recognizes the card, but the editing software not…

Any advice?

I know this is a surfboard design forum but… i would love to see Free Ride and Morning Of The Earth on DVD…

Thanks in advance.

Sorry Coque I’m a Mac man. Partly because of the problems you are having. Have you tried simply capturing the footage with another program like movie maker and then once it’s on your drives move it over to priemere? Just a thought.
