Hey CA guys,
I have a life-guarding job on the Catalina Islands this summer but i am flying out a week early to hopefully get a wave. I don’t want to travel too far from LA because i have to come back to catch my boat. ~ 60 miles would be fine, somewhere by bus or train would be best but where do you recommend to go that i can camp and surf?
I have looked at going to San Clemente and staying at the state park, what do you think, any good? am i likely of getting a wave?
Thanks so much
Ben
Hey Ben
San Clemente is Trestles.
Catch a wave at Trestles in June? HMMMMM…Maybe one or two.(I am totally being sarcastic)
If you’re gonna do it…I would say you picked the right spot.
I’m in LA…let me know if I can help out.
Hey
cheers for that i am gonna try and spend a few days there then now my boss says he wants me to start on the 7th so turns out i might only have 4 days but i guess that means i’m gonna have to cram in some serious surf to make up for the 12 weeks of no surf out in the Catalinas.
Cheers again and if i get stuck again or you wanna go for a wave when i’m out there i’ll drop you a PM.
Ben
San Clemente has a decent place to camp and there are a lot of different breaks besides Trestles to surf.
Your want to be in Orange County because that pretty much where Catalina is West of Huntington Beach.
cheers guys thanks for all the advice.
I think i.m gonna try San Clemente as i have heard from friends that it is a great place.
But does anyone know about public transport i heard that trains and busses don’t take boards? Is this true?
Thanks again
Ben
Hey Ben,
Back in the 80’s my friends and I went to catalina and surfed on the west side. The roads are private (my friends brother was the girl scout camp maint. man so he picked us up and drove us) I hear that the other way is to take a boat. So bring your board with you, not the best surf but it is better than nothing

Thanks everyone for there help. I’m gonna spend a few days in San Clemente before work begins, and i’m gonna have to bribe my boss to let me take a boat to the other side of the Island. Well thanks for everything and i hope to catch a few of you out there in CA.
Ben
