Got an older epoxy board, delamming. Is it worth recycling the blank?

Responded to an ad for a free longboard on craigslist, I figured that even if it wasn’t worth repairing, I could recycle the blank and make a wide, fat summer board.  The board is a probably 10+ year old epoxy board.  It looks like they laminated straight over a polystyrene blank.  The deck has several major bubbles and big sections delamming, and the overall board is in beatup condition.  So my question is whether it is worthwile to strip the glass and reshape the blank.  If I go to the effort, will the board I make likely delam, or will it hold up?  My understanding is that epoxy/styrene boards have had issues with stryene giving off gas, causing the board to delam (which I’ve been told is why firewire boards had a vent.)

I say go for it! You can buy  vents For the finished creation,if you think delamination might be an issue.

thanks.  i think i’ll do it.

I just did it with a pu blank for my first shape. I thought havingthe plug and fin box in already would help. It was a biiig time hindrance. I also chopped the nose so had to shape in my own rocker. It didnt come out how i wanted. I also had to remove so much fOam I got to the softer stuff in middle. not sure if thats a problem with epoxy. I also took out some chunks of foam out from the rail in the tail area when i stripped it and had to fix them. that was annoying  . Was it worth t? Yeah. I guess. I kept 6’6" of foam from the landfill and I learned A LOT. Would i do it again? Yeah. If i got the blank for free and it wasnt too banged up to begin with, but when I wantto shape my next one I cant wait to buy a real blank.  What would i do different? Chop the damn tail with the plug and finnboxes and not attempt a design that needed me to remove a lot of foam and or make my own damned rocker. Thats scary. I would go mini simmons style for sure. A) I loooooved the demo I rode from Sasquatch Surfboards, and it would work within the old logs dims, and wouldnt have to plane foam for a week. (hand planer, no electric planer)
