these boards are fishing boats called “caballitos de tortora” (little horses of tortora reed)
you see them in the La Libertad province of Peru.
the fisherman have been fishing in this same way since before 500 AD.
this is why they say surfing was invented in Peru, not Hawaii.
Every morning these guys are up before sunrise, pretty far out to sea, fishing alone in these boats. i’ve seen them out in 8 ft. of swell. they surf the boats in.
