I’m trying to find out what kind of fin this is. It has the George Greenough airplane logo on it and says 4A. Does that mean stage 4? And what does the letter A stand for? What type of wave/board is this fin made for? I would appreciate any information that anyone could provide. Mahalo! P.S. I’m going to try to post a picture with this message but if that doesn’t work, I’ve posted a URL where you can view the fin. http://www.geocities.com/ajl808/greenough.html

Aloha Matt, Thanks for the help with the fin. I saw another Greenough fin that had a 4C on it. Do you know what this means? It was similar to the 4A but a little more upright with less rake.

I don’t think it had any flex.

Thanks for the help Matt. I’m surfing a 6’6" displacement hull egg. I was reading your post about the Gross/Greenough Spoon that you ordered. I’d love to hear how it works when you finally get it in the water. Maybe you could post some pics here? A few weeks ago I got a chance to see one of George’s spoons here in Hawaii. Awesome!!

Awesome!! sounds like a bitchin’ board! who made it? if you need new boards and are a resident of the islands, give greg liddle a shout. he is in kapaa, on kuai (just in case you didn’t know)oh, i’ll try and get some pics to you, or you can go to www.Blast Surfboards.com.paul has some pics of a spoon in various stages of construction, start to finish.keep it smooth!
Aloha Matt,>>> Thanks for the help with the fin. I saw another Greenough fin that had a > 4C on it. Do you know what this means? It was similar to the 4A but a > little more upright with less rake. ajl: just found out what the a, c, etc. on those fins mean.they represent what template it is.eg,a 4a is the original greenough template off of velo, and are usually a 9.75 or 10.0" fin. the a referes to that specific template. the 4c is a 9.5" paul gross designed fin used in his longboard spoons.it’s foundation is the 4a, which paul took, refined and tweaked until it worked in his longboards. ( i can’t begin to tell you how long that took him, shaving it down bit by bit until he felt it was tuned)thus, the c referes to that specific template. so, if you asked for a 10" greenough stage 4 fin, you would need to add the a or c to the order so they would know exactly which template you wanted the original (a) or the the paul gross version(c). hope that helps! matt
Hey Matt, Thanks for all the fin info. That really helps me out a lot. I took a look at Greg Liddel’s website and his boards look killer! I’ve read a lot of positive comments about his work here. The 6’6" that I was telling you about was made by me. It’s my best board yet (I got really lucky!). Thanks again!
