I would like to thank you for fielding so many questions directed to you. you are fresh and we are all diggin on it. but, hey, here’s some more: what are CAT channels? what is being done about the feel of epoxy? is there anything new being developed to make epoxy feel like the standard? I have never rode one of your boards but have rode epoxy boards before (surftech), I find they are stiff and have a different feel on a wave that I am not used too and therefore don’t like.
Epoxy custom boards ride different from the molded ones. They have the same type lamination with laps and clear layups. The resin is different on a custom epoxy than on a polyester. This doesn’t change the ride of the board significantly. The difference is in the foam. An epoxy laminate with a urethane core won’t feel different than a polyester with a urethane core. It will just last about twice as long. Now if you use a polystyrene core there will be a difference because of the weight of the core and the weight of the finished board. Some will tell you light rides better, some will say heavier. All boards hold up better with epoxy resin and the choice of weight is in the core and the weight of laminate. Again the choice in resin is the durability of the finshed product. Epoxy is more durable. C.A.T. channels are something I designed about two years ago. C.A.T. stands for Clean Action Technology. The channel bottoms I’ve ridden in the past require clean faced waves to perform at their best. We don’t have that very often here. I do beleive in what channels are designed for, drive and stability and wanted to design a channel that didn’t cause the kind of turbulence that square channels do. So I designed CAT channels which are eliptical in cross section insted of square stepped. CAT channels out perform regular channels by a substanial margin in anything but optimum surf. Remember, if it’s not a CAT it must be a DOG.
