Griffin thruster

My thruster came this past week and I am waiting to give it a go.It is 5’ 10" x 18’3/4 x 2"3/16.

It has vee goin the entire length of the board and it has that rail line that everyone has been talking about.

The board is eps with the new fusion fin boxes. The fins are pretty bad ass.Perfectly foiled as far as I can tell.

Compared to what I normally ride this board is alot fuller especially from the midpoint up to the nose.I have been riding a coil that Mike let me try out and I compared the outline of the two since they are the same length. They were identical except from the midpoint up where the Griffin was about 2" wider.

There are supposed to be some waves comin in a couple days for us here in florida so I hope to give some feed back on what the ride was like.

looking forward to it!

I’m sure greg is too…

just be honest about it so we can put the whole GG phenom is perspective for all…

Well this past weekend I was finally able to get some surfin in waves that were bigger than waist high.I would say that the waves were about chest to head high wind chop.It was really fun with waves connecting from the outside to the inside. The best thing about his design is that I was able to make small corrections at anytime.I could fell the lift thing that everyone has been talking about and it trully makes the board feel free from the water.I was able to go anywhere I wanted on the wave without having to worry about losinspeed or drive!

I did have some problems backside cause i usually surf of my front foot when i go backside in order to get speed. So I have adjusted by keepin more weight on my back foot to pump and now I am haulin ass.I did some backside lipshots that had me feelin like what the shit just happened here.I would come off the bottom and get as vertical as I could and whack the shit out of it and come down with more spped that I went into it.The board pivots when you need it to and drives when you need it to.

It goes backwards well to which is important for me cause I like to do reverses.

The only thing that I don’t like is the fact that I feel like I have to be careful with her because all my other boards are far more durable.

I would love to see what Kelly Slater would do on one of his boards!

Yep, definitely a Griffin!

I buckled the nose today in some fun beach break.Sucks when you have a good board and f#@$ it up in 2 weeks!

was it worth it in the end?

did it live up to the hype?

I’m sure everyone wants to know since you have a sunova, firewire and coil to reference it against…

It was definately worht it.

He has some kind of magic formula that he can apply to any board.

The second day I had the board I was surfin some smalll waves and one af my friends was with me.He said he had to leave because he was tired of seeing me catch so many waves and having so much fun! That kind of shit doesn’t happen often enough.

knowing the competition you just referenced Greg’'s board against I think you just made him very happy…

Can’t beat a true “handmade” custom.

need to support guys that still understand the process

Mahalo and hope you get it fixed okay

Greg makes a GREAT Board. I have one of his 4 fins. Bummer on the buckle though. Hope the fix turns out good.

Here are pictures of the board

These are my fins at this time

I am going to be selling these starting febuary 09

I will offer 2 sizes

Fix came out great.Surfed on it saturday with craftee. He was on his 5 fin griffin.Unfortuneately for me by the time I got to the beach the tide killed it.

You ride dirt bikes?

I had a chance to contrast my two new favorite things in small, but really clean peeling

beach breaks out in front here in the new sand holes…

The griff rides like it’s on rails…but you lay down those tracks with your mind when you surf.

It sounds so cliche, I’d punch myself for writing it if I didn’t believe it.

Historically, I’m not good (on these types of shapes), but everytime I get on my 5-fin I shock

myself…a backside-sorta-floater-off-the-top-thing yesterday…wtf just happened?

Also had my Spence stringerless out in the same conditions…really clean and lined up…that board

is like the cushion of air beneath a gull’s wings…so smooth…tripled my wave count.

go do your ads on surfer mag’’

Hmmmm.

he’s just bitter he’s not riding a griffin or a surftech.

Stoked the fix was good.

I ride quads and buggies lately. I have raced quads, go carts and modifieds for most of my life.

You ride?

have you ridden the Griffin any more surfercross?

still goes good?

would like to know… thanks

I’m really curious about the rails on Griffins boards that I keep hearing about. Any chance of getting a up close pic, or some sort of in depth explanation? Just curious, thanks

T.

tucked under with a hard edge nose to tail…flat bottoms…release, release, release.

I know a guy down south who got a Griffin thruster and he says it goes better than any of his other thrusters.

I snagged a used 6’5"x22"x3" 5-fin modfish last week and surfed it this weekend…smallest board in my quiver had a couple really magnificent waves on it…much easier for me to find the sweet spot since there’s much less real estate to roam on once you’re up…can’t wait for my new-new griff to show up…I’m already trying to scheme on how to afford one of his Cheater Quads and/or Twins.

i’m not as semi-pro like surfercross but his thruster’s go good

I think they are one of his best unknown secrets and make alot of sense here in Hawaii

I also have his regular 5-fin fish(my original Griffin experience)

and 3 duplicates of his 5-fin mod fish in different setups (resinX-PU-S-cloth, bamboo veneer-epoxy-bamboo cloth/PU, tigerwood veneer-ResinX-Scloth)

and a 7’4" big boy 5-fin (kind of like one of his Rockets)

I don’t know but it seems like the thruster is the most famiiar of them all just with his G FF-juice.

I want to get one of his multiplane 5fin long boards next
