Is this grinder good for hotcoat sanding and fcs plus.

Thanks

It’s a lovely little item for working on steel, with abrasive grinding-type discs or the 3M and Norton pads, but at 12,000 RPMs with a 4-5" disc, it’s not gonna do you any favors for hotcoats or polishing. I use little guys like this for pretty much exclusively metal work, had mine out today to grind through some steel rod stock. But for smoothing big surfaces that are kinda fragile, it definitely wouldn’t be my top choice. I forget if it was Ryobi or Hitachi, maybe even Bosch, that made a 5 or 6" variable speed sander/grinder that’d top out around 6000 RPM, which is an okay speed for a small wheel sander/grinder.

For infrequent, occasional work http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=46507 is more what you’re looking for. Works with standard or home-made foam backing pads, slows down enough to be a useful polisher too.

If you’re doing production work, you’ll want to go to one of the pro-grade tools like the Hitachi, the Makita or (my own favorite) the Milwaukee variable speed sander/grinder/polishers. See the archives for lots, lots more on the subject

hope that’s of use

doc…

How many board will that polisher/sander last taht doc suggested. I just need it to sand not polish.
