grom board fin placement

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone could help out With fin placement for this grom board, 5’2" x 16 3/4" x 2". Light single to double concave round tail. Thanks

The kid who its for is a pretty good surfer and so thats why i would really like the fins to be right.

What is the tail width on that (@12")?

What is the fin size or template(s) you’re going to use?

What was the fin placement, toe-in, cant angle, and distance of the rail on the previous favourite board?

Weight and height of this small person?

Of course you will have fin placement tables for your short boards, med length and long boards. Tables for single, twin, twinzer, twinfinner, tri, thruster (shortboards and guns), quads and quad thruster combo settings. haha

Thruster shortboards generally have very small fin placement variation for board length.

Take into account that toe-in adjusts for single foiled side fin lift (amongst other effects) so there is a limited range of toe-in that you probably don’t want to go beyond. Same with can’t angles, keep it simple.

Cross check with someone that makes a lot of HP grom shortboards like Pyzel, Mayhem or DHD depending on which continent you’re on (or all three if possible). If you don’t want to re-invent the wheel then it’s not a bad idea to get a board made from a successful pro and use that as a starting point. If you get a good 5’0 fin setting and a 6’0 fin setting then you should be able to fill in the gaps(?).

Surfed with a few Bali grooms over the summer and one of the most noticeable things about whether their boards were working or not was the fin settings IMHO.

I usually go 10.75 on front fins and 3.25 on the trailer. Using grom fins of course.

Yeah il prob just tell him to bring up his current board and measure that.
