Grom Thruster (Pic Heavy)

My most recent project last week turned into a whole can o worms. Didn’t anticipate how much trouble it would be working on something so tiny. In hindsight the black future boxes was not the best call; They look so big-stand out so much on the tiny board with grom fins, oh well.

for scale my 6yo son is 43" tall

Bud,

I’ve admired your shopkeeping skills for a long time now. How on earth do you keep your space so spotless? Even the stands don’t have dust! Are you REALLY shaping those boards in there?..or do you have some other space that you’re not showing us to make us all feel bad. j/k

Great work on the board as always.

Question: How did you get that finish…is it a full on gloss coat and polish?

kc

thanks, just coming up on my one year board building anniversary. Since I shape/paint/glass/sand in this one small space I have to keep it tidy; that, and in consideration of my neighbors, I do my best to constantly clean up, during + right after each step.

I’ve never glossed a board yet. just hotcoat & sanded through the grits. last couple I’ve stayed dry through 600g then used rubbing compound & then the polish that FH sells.

My daughter/glasser/sander thinks the board is cool and that your son is cute too and maybe when we come to Hawaii he could give her surfing lessons?

lol, dunno if I’d advise him to go there, looks like she’s got those ‘heartbreaker eyes’

very nice. Those little boards are hard to do.

On your racks, what is the pvc pipe thing on the end for?

turns my shaping rack into glassing racks and helps to hold the recovery tray in place

glass or hotcoat, carry the board out onto sawhorses in the sun and cured 5 minutes later. remove board and replace with drip tray

thanks for the inspiration, bud. i plan on building my son a board when he’s about your boy’s age. not a lot of room for error, that’s for sure, but i reckon you’ve done another great job. only one year of building surfboards? you are killing it mate. congratulations.

Very tidy. Thx Bud
