Gucci Surfboards??

Did you read that new article on swell about Gucci’s new line of surfboards?? Well it’s not really a line, there are two boards to choose from. Both are in close to $2,500 and no one knows who the shaper is, obviously their customers aren’t paying for the craftsmanship. How cool could you possibly look paddling out with a Gucci board. Your thoughts?? -Brandon

Your thoughts??>>> -Brandon…back in the 60s sears sold popouts,so did j.c. pennys, and how cool would it be paddling out on a shell gas station surfin’board at a whopping 29.95 or a do-it-yourself kit for 14.95(with a min. 8 gal. fill-up)Herb.

Pop-outs were built in an old warehouse in Compton back in the 60s as well. My cousin worked there as a glasser for a while. Wanting to get a new board at a good price, I had him bring one home one day for me to check out. Well, it almost resembled a surfboard, but nothing I would have wanted to ride. And it weighed about 35 tons. I stayed with my 9’4" Ole for many years! They can keep their Gucci surfboards and their button down shoes and their 1940s songs, we’ve got good shapers around today. Aloha, Old Longboarder

With all due respect to the short board population, my opinion is, It ain’t no longboard unless it’s over nine foot, and that’s stretching it a bit by the standards of the 60s. At 8’6" in 1960 a board would be really short. Make mine long! Aloha, Old Longboarder

Hey guys checkout Harbour’s talk(before they edit it). There’s some interesting talk about the SURFLINE CONTEST board size(shortboards)that someone alerted me to…as for size I believe that a longboard is 9-0 or longer and a shorty is 7-0 and shorter so what about the 7-1 thru the 8-11 range???..beginnerboard,girlboard? How about a mid-range class like in Aussie-land.Herb.

If memory serves me correctly, that was the year I quit. Started again in January 2001. One of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time. Missed the short board evolution/revolution, by choice. Too much work paddling, and the graceful turns and cruise of the long board, was where the fun was/is for me. I like to have fun surfing so I stayed long. (Have converted a few confirmed short board riders both young, old and in between, are you next?) Aloha, Old (confirmed) Longboarder

Real surfers are not deterred by " too much paddling,” hobbyists are. You have no concept of the evolution of our sport and the equipment, yet you choose to comment on it. That’s like someone saying they don’t like sushi, but they have never tried it because it’s too much trouble to go to a sushi bar. Todays line-ups are clogged up with a lot of people that shouldn’t be out there and hobbyists are yet another example of this. Now write me that ticket…

nah, we’re an advanced civilization. we don’t ticket opinions, we understand that everyone is different, even though we share an appreciation for surfing. no tickets from the “corny” police either, please!

It’s better to remain silent and appear to be an idiot, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Longboard riders have the right to be in the water, but obviously some shortboarder’s ridicule of longboarders in the 60s is still alive and well today. It’s time for everyone to get along and share the love we all have for the ocean. Champion Charlie Brown

You are the enemy of free speech. Only you have the “self-divine right” to your narcissitic, self indulgent point of view. Now there’s really nothing wrong with that other than it’s boring, tedious and immature. But it is good for a laugh. Here’s to taking you (not too) seriously kid! And remember, it takes all kinds.
