trying to sand my hotcoat, and im going through so much paper, i used sanding resin… ive tried low speed and high speed on my sander, ive tried holding it flat, and at an angle…still gums up,using 100 grit to start ,any suggestions…man i hate sanding. // this is my 4th board and ive never had this problem at all , i cant figure it out, its like im trying to sand lam resin, but i mixed SA the same as allways, any way to get it to sand…“worst episode ever!”
Resin might be kinda slow or catalyst a little weak and it hasn’t gone off entirely yet - put it out in the sun for a while and see what happens. That should kick it off some and make life easier.
hope that’s of use
doc…
try putting a bit more wax in it. this works for me.
more wax…!?..its a little late now! nevermind …besides i dont really think thats the problem…and DOC, i think uyou might be on to something , cause that might be my only choice, but the only thing is it seems plenty cured up… its just once i start to sand…its gummy …no dust at all! I came up with one idea… what if i used twice as much SA as i was supposed to …any body ever seen it have this effect?..because im not positive yet just because its getting a little late…but i think i was sold sanding resin when i asked for lam resin…which would mean now i have too much wax in it…any way if this was the case, how can i get it sandable…adding wax to wax resin is the only thing i can think of…cause ive never had this happen .
why dont you mix up laminating resin and put wax in and then put it on thin. if you warm the resin first and put less catlist in it will go on thinner.
have,
Sometimes when you get thru the thin outer gummy layer your hotcoat will sand normally. Keep sanding an area and see if it bengins to sand normally. Don’t let it get too hot. Mike
If it won’t cure to the point of easy sanding, just keep replacing the sandpaper until you get through the goo. It’s a bitch. I’ve had to go through a whole pack and yes, too much wax can cause problems also.
I’ve had this problem as well, I beleive I added wax twice (resin fumes are getting to me) and had to use a ton of sandpaper to get through it, but that was about the only thing I could do. Keep on sanding, it will get better. Good Luck!
well i guess thats it , seems like theres no quick fix for this…i hate when that happens////and everyone that said, “why did you do that?” “why didnt you do this?”…thats just the problem i did it the exact same way ive always done it …and suddenly different results…well i think i must have just figured it out!..its not the resin i was sold…lam resin ( that i always add my SA for my hotcoat)…and its not my mekp(wich i used the day before with no problem)…suprise its the damn wax/styrene. mix!.same kind i always use just a new jar…wonderful how a $5 product can waste so much time and cause such a headache!.. lesson learned from now on i better test a new bottle of anything…well i guess i better go sand or something.
