Is it a bad batch? Does it need to get hotter, longer? I am using a urethane sealant as a non-slip material, but it isn’t “going off.” Anyone have any ideas why the stuff is still tacky and smearable after week, two days of which was spent in a “hot box” @ 76 degrees f.?
Hi Taylor, If we`re talking about a thin (less than
1/8"), textured coating of Vulkem 116, the primary
cure should be no more than 2 days max. I`ve never had
any problems with it. Applications over 1/4" thick in
high humidity at less than 50 degree temps, will take longer. At 60-70 degrees air temp, estimate 1/16"
thickness of cure per 8 hours. What product are you
using? Did you try any test panels?
Yeah - Got the exact stuff you recommended - (Didn’t want to give it away if it was a “trade secret”) 1/16" - 1/8" thick on test panels, wood, and EVA. Like I said, @ 48 hours in the “hot box,” so…??? I guess I’ll wait and see. I just wonder if it could be a bad batch. I will check it again this afternoon, as I have been too sick to get all the way to the shop the last couple days. If it still hasn’t gone off, then I will go trade it for an other tube, and try it again. Hope for the best, expect the unexpected. I will try to make it down and see you soon. He is risen, He is risen indeed. I may or may not just go for the rail transition. The beauty of the beads, I can always change it. Love to you my brother.
LeeV - if you read this - did you see the “drawings” the other day? Did it help at all? I am going to get the pics once it is a little smoother, so I don’t look like to much of a kook. Still would appreciate thoughts on different transitions ideas, e.g., convexed, flat, slight concave w/smooth convex lip, slight concave/flat w/sharp lip/break.
