HAnd profiling help!

Using an EA US blank. Cut my outlie and shaped rocker. I’ve got the thickness to where I pretty much want it after skinning the deck. Was pretty low tolerance.

Problem is it is super thick in the tail, like over twice the thickness I’d want it. The deck is flat through to the tail from the mid as it is now, so if I take it down it’s going to run at an angle down or be stepped toward the back. A bit disheartened and at a loss as what to do. Any suggestions appreciated. Cheers.

Contrary to the modern thin tails , I like thickness and bouyancy under the back foot…quite easy to foil a thicker tail tail down , while retaining the volume…suggest you check out Mccoysurfdesigns.com. There’s a few interesting videos and photos that explain this quite well , without trying to sell you any bullshyit.

you can take it down - you may need to blend all the way back to the thickest part of the blank to keep your foil even.

what grasshopper said … plus I’d look into blending in a little more tail rocker, a single concave out the tail, thin out the rails on the deck.  Step back away and eyeball your whole foil from a distance. Long strokes, blend. .02 from a backyarder

“Step back away and eyeball your whole foil from a distance”.

This says it all. MOST of my time shaping is standing back and stareing at the lines.

Ever heard of “S” decks?

Thicker tails leave room for boxes.

Choice, thanks crew!

Crisis averted. Went to town with the surform, blocks and fairing board board last night. Took a bit of volume out of the rails before doing bands and this helped me look at the profile a bit better. All blended together quite nice in the end. A bit more thicker than I’d prefer but will play around with it a bit more when I do the bands to extract a bit more volume. Do you reckon rolling the deck around the tail makes much of a difference? Usually using standard squarish on the back there on the tail. with just a touch of curve on the deck.

Was going to have single to subtle inset double concaves with perhaps a slight hint of vee off the tail. But been pondering single to all the way out the back. Is a standard allrounder HPS round tail, but will be surfing some shallow tropical reef slabs with it. What would be the best for hold?
