hand shaping a triple stringer

HEllo,

I’m shaping my third board… the first two were Clark Foam blanks and I was able to shape them with sanding blocks for the most part. My technique was to shape the foam and then take down the stringer with a spokeshave or block plane.

I have a 9’9" exell blank with three stringers and can’t really wrap my brain about how to go about this. I am hesitant to use a power planer beacuse I’ve never used one and I don’t really have the money.

Does any one have any suggestions on tools/techniques that might help me?

Thanks!

Triple stringers are hard to shape: especially when it comes to level the side stringers with the foam where they meet at the rail. Although it’s actually feasible to shape one with a very well honed hand planer, it’s not an easy task. Do yourself a favor and borrow a power planer from someone…
