Hansen Master

I have an original Hansen Master and I’m trying to figure out the year it was built and shaper.  I’ve scoured the the board and can’t find a serial number anywhere.  Anyone have any ideas? I bought the board in 1985 and have carried it with me all over the country. Thanks.

A close up shot of the fin would really help.

What's with the hands coming out of the wall!?

I broke the original fin off and had it replaced with a box several years ago.  The original had a black plastic type fin that wasn’t glassed in but rather had some sort of fin box with a tapered base so the fin set without a screw.

oh, the hands out of the wall are surf racks.  They are about the length of an arm and screw into a stud or sheet rock.

The Hansen fin system originally on your board was called the Hydro-wedge. Hansen used it from 1967 (maybe late '66) to around 1969. You didn't say how long your board is, but it looks over 9'. Based on that, my guess is it was made in 1967. Without a serial number, it would be almost impossible to say who shaped it.

thanks! Board is 9’6". Thinking about having the glass stripped off and the board restored.  I only ride it once a year at my college reunion surf contest.

Why? Doesn’t look like it’s that far gone.

it’s watertight but it’s started de-lam near the nose and tail on the deck. stringers are good. there’s a guy in town that owns a glassing facility and he’s restored some old boards that now look incredible!

Doesn’t sound ( or look) like it should be stripped. Don’t be surprised if this glasser/restorer advises against it.

Ditto what SammyA said. Might as well get a new board made if you are going to strip off the glass and reglass. I don't see any delam bubbles in the deck picture. You've replaced the fin box and the board is water tight. You're only going to ride it once a year. Let the old girl keep some of her youthful charm.
