Found in a dumpster: 10’2 monster longboard with logo reading “By Hansen Cardiff 50/50”. Looks like it’s never been surfed. Glass is in great shape except for some rail dings.
Questions:
Anybody know anything about this board / its value?
Small rail dings - What do repairs do to the value of the board?
Fin - Seems to use a Hansen finbox system. I was thinking about making a fin to fit into the fin box by coating the fin box with release agent, filling it with resin, and putting in a modern fin. The only fin which I can find which fits it is $150 at oneworldsurf.com. Anybody got any better ideas?
I shaped for Hansen for many years. What is the board number, and any symbols or numbers associated with it? It can tell who the shaper was. The box is original, molded in the board during glassing, using a polypropylene plug. There are fins available for it. Don’t modify the box. The value could be quite high, in original condition. Value could be easily over one thousand dollars. You are one lucky fellow!
That is one BEAUTIFUL board! You found it in a DUMPSTER!!! You are a lucky, lucky man! Please, and I know I speak for other Sway folks, PLEASE DO NOT FILL IN THE BOX!!! Spend the money for the fin! If I didn’t have a new warehouse to set up and a pile of blanks to shape and glass, I’d give you some $$$ for that classic! Don’t fill it, buy the fin!!! A dumpster!!! Wow …quick, buy some lottery tickets …
ps - one summer session will be worth the $150, I wish I had a fin for it, I swear I’d donate it … a dumpster!!!
Thanks for your replies. It’s amazing what you can find in the trash if you keep your eyes open. (Especially in the northeast, where people don’t know much about boards)
I promise not to mess up the fin box. I’ll look for more identification numbers after work.
What do you think about small repairs on the rail? I’m a so/so amateur shaper, so I can do a solid repair, but I never get it to look perfect. How much would repairs affect the integrity?
I have to defer to one of the many restoration experts here on Swaylocks as I have the same problem - solid repair, but never matches up 100%. Once again, BEAUTIFUL board! … a dumpster!!! I can’t get over that … sheesh … I may move back East and become a “diver”!!!
