I have this Jacobs hull just sitting in the garage. I have surfed it a handful of times, but it really doesn’t do it for me. A buddy of mine told me about this asymmetric finless project that Ryan Lovelace has been doing called “The Rabbit’s Foot” where he chopped up an old Liddle and added some bottom contour to make a sick little wave slider.
In any case the way I see it is that I have an old board
collecting dust and a new idea for a finless surfcraft that I can execute with
minimal cost and wasted materials. But, I just wanted to make sure my donor
board isn't of value (either historically or monetarily) to anyone
before permanently altering it.
The board is somewhere in the 7’-6” range, hull entry, V out
the back, and really thick. At some point, the original fin box was routed out
and the original flex fin was glassed in (way too far back). The board is in fair
condition for a board its age and has some minor delam under the back foot, but
other than that it surfs.
It would make me sick to see you chop up that board. If you want a freak board get a blank and make it. i would not destroy a classic board to make a frankenboard.
Other
than the delam under the back foot, it is in great shape and is fully surfable.
I have surfed at a bunch of different waves (that I typically would surf on a
hull) from point break to beach and the thing is just a total bummer. It has no
redeeming aspects of a hull (except I would love to have the fin in any other
hull), yet all of the downfalls.
If someone sees some value in it in SoCal (I'm
in Dana Point), I'll put it up for sale / trade.
PM me if your interested and I’ll give you a deal. Otherwise if it doesn’t sell
on Craigslist and no one is interested here, then it’s going to be a finless experiment (sorry, its been taking up space for way too long).
