Harbor Frt Planer Question

I got one of those Harbor Freight planers. The $39 one. I like the adjustable exhaust chute. Basically it’s a nice little planer.

One thing I don’t like the safety button on the handle. Has anyone tried to disconnect or jump this? I’m asking here before I take it apart.

Hey Bill

If it is the same type of switch as the Hitachi style one(I believe it is)

the safety is built as a part of the trigger switch and can’t be easily bypassed.

Not only will you have to take the handle apart, but you will have to actually take the switch apart.

Of course I’m not positive…I have only taken apart the Hitachi style one.

Just my 1.874 cents

Ok, Took the coverplate off the handle (two screws).

The safety switch is not electical but mechanical. Easily removed.

I tried the planer and it hangs up. Doesn’t slide smoothly. I think the surface behind the blades needs to be wetsanded and polished.

I got used to the safety button as once the tool is engaged, you don’t have to keep your thumb on the button.

Mine has a groove cut into the front shoe, some times hangs up on the foam ridges between cuts. I’ve thought about filling it with bondo but I’m afraid it will fall out in bits and will just make matters worse. Anyone else have this “feature” on their Harbor Freight planer and modified it?
