Has anyone ever purchased a close tolerance blank, and (just for kicks) glassed the thing as is? It would be really strange and funny to see a glassed un-skinned blank being ridden in the line-up with all of the blank manufacturer’s markings still on it! Maybe they could call this new brand of board: “The Rough Rider”, or The Radically Rustic? Ok, that’s enough now. I have to call my mom for Mother’s Day.
What a coincidence you ask… I was over to my shaper’s house the other day (he actually asked if I wanted to watch my board get shaped!) When he pulled out the blank for my new 6’ 5" we started talking about how it might surf if he glassed it right then. I’m sure you could make it work, but in the end decided to go with the shape we’d already come up with. I pick it up on Tueday! Can’t wait.
well a few years ago we got a 6’4"j blank from burfords we had it left in the mould overnight so the paper was stuck to it.we put in a standard stringer and i then glued a set of tractites on to it! it was fun to surf for a hour before it got to dead and heavy… we used to leave it for a week and when it was dry we took it out again for a few weeks running. it had a little to much flex and we suffered a little from no edge around the tail but all in all it went better than some of the backyard shapes that are around. http://www.feraldave.com
