this planer, Bosch GHO40-82C, has been avaliable in UK for a couple of years or so and looks ideal for shaping. 4mm ,(thats 5/32" in old money), open to closed in about 1/2 turn, the handle is set back (although not as far back as it should be) , left or right extraction, and best of all wedge action height adjustment like a Skil. A friend of mine got one for carpentry not long after i got hold of a hitachi clack 2003 after years of using an Elu. the bosch is not as light as the hitachi or as heavy as a skil. sorry I haven’t got a picture of it without its fence.
Dave,
I have one. I’ve done some shaping with it on Clark foam. Have to go really slow or it tears. Probably due to the single blade barrel. I still prefer the Skil 100 to any other planer I’ve used to date.
I have one too. I like it for EPS because its light. I have to tie a wire around the trigger though because the dang button is to let you turn it on, not to keep it turned on (like my last Bosch planer’s button was). Wonder why they inverted the button function? Probably got sued by some ninny who shouldn’t have been let near power tools to begin with.
Someone posted a nice handle-angle mod on that planer on this site a few months ago. I haven’t bothered with that yet, but I did fill in the channels on the bottom with epoxy putty & put on a 20’ cord.
Has anybody seen this exact planer in the US. At closer inspection it is very different then the Bosch models we generally see. For starters it is 240V the she adjusts like a skill not up and down like the hitachi or other planers we get, and the 1/2 turn for full 4 mm cut is impressive. The Bosch models I have seen did not cut that deep and it took a full turn to get that close. This apears to be the closest thing to an unmodified planer we could hope for. take a look at some of the specs fom places that sell it
How hard is it to get a tool that works on 240v to work here in the US?

Just as hard as it is to get a Skill or Hitachi or whatever running on 110v for us frenchies…
You’re right about the voltage. But mine, bought here in the states, goes from 0 to 5/32" in 180* of turn. 5/32" is actually more than the standard 1/8" of the Skil & others…
