Been awhile since I checked in…finally made the move to Oahu .Shut down my garage/shaping room in So.cal and here I am ,no Blanks,no shaping room and adjusting to hawaiian power.Waves of cosequence.currents and rip tides that could take you to Molokai or Kauai…
It’s a whole new ball game here…i tell you what…we’ll go thru lots of boards here,all of mine have coral stuck in their bottoms after just 2 weeks!
busting my *ss trying to finish 25 balsa core hardwood lam vacuum bag jewelry boxes for the ladies in the office.
It’s alot tougher than I though wish I started earlier…
30% failure rate with the finishes… UV Mirror coat etc etc even tried UPOL spray
the best so far has been Kokua’s finishing resin formula over a base of UV sanding resin tha’s been sanded smooth.
Kokua’s gloss drys rock hard and comes out like glass with a quick festools rub of 320 then 400 then shurluster then wax. 220 to cut out any lumps but the depth and glow is amazing… Mirror coat and UV sanding sucks need more cure time… Epoxy contamination on oily woods is a given…
But 25 boxes is just too damn much
averaging 2-3 hours of sleep a night this week just finishing up but not finishing as expected tonight.
I’m turning into a zombie…
trying to put back on the little latches and hinges with their micro screws at midnight is a nightmare and every morning it takes a two venti lattes at starbucks just stay awake…
Anyway
christmas morning oneula park the gods bless us every year with some fun logging waves. Last saturday was fun too… no need to put your life on the line unless you want to…Kimo Hollinger found that out at waimea way back. Now he surfs just to have fun and not to prove anything to himself or anyone else…
