I’m working on a system to add fin bases to finFoil 3D exports.
You can help in multiple ways to make it easy for everyone to produce files like shown below.
So you can help in two ways:
Create and share technical drawings in this thread of the fin bases you know.
Download OpenSCAD and start creating fin bases and contribute them in the following github repository: https://github.com/hrobeers/finbases
If you don't know how to use git, you can also just send me the files. (PM me for contact details)
You can use this FCS tab file as an example: https://github.com/hrobeers/finbases/blob/master/FCS/original.scad

Any contributions are greatly appreciated!
And don’t forget to start following finFoil on twitter
It’s fully parameterized so that the length can be adapted to the fin’s base length. There will also be an option to reverse the box.
Inspired by the files I recieved from jrandy, I made the pin hole diameter smaller than the real pin so that it serves as an aid to drill the hole to fit your pin.
And inspired by windsurfing US box bases, the green area is thinner to make fin movement easy when the fin is tilted while still fitting tightly when installed.
Thank you and the team by this great tools and space.
I’m creating a fin in 3D file, working in Autodesk Fusion 360. Totally first time on that.
I would really apreciate to use a 3d file of a standart fin for that,
1- Could you please help me with some 3D fin proyect you can provide, is easy for you transforme it in .stb format file?
2- One coment for finfoil v1.0.0; I’ve install and open the finfoil v1.0.0, it open well; and on first click the window of that become white… any sugestion?
.stb seems to be an AutoDesk format that is not described in a standard, I could be wrong but that's what a quick search tells me. I only support export to STL file, which is a standard for 3D meshes.
Not sure what's going wrong. Which operating system are you using? On windows, you should just extract the .zip file downloaded from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/finfoil/files/windows/
There are no special installation steps required, just run finFoil.exe in the extracted folder.

So I’m not sure how I can help you. From your text, it is difficult for me to understand what you want to achieve, so please elaborate a bit.
I’d like to use finFoil.exe to achieve a the shape I want in my fin proyect. I had 2 points to discuss with you.
I’ve resolve this point, using Upload command in Autodesk fusion 360, that send the file to the Autodesk Translation Service and begin to translate the file so that it may be edited natively in Fusion 360. At this time, the following file formats are supported:
The basic process: draw the fin in finFoil, upload the saved *.foil file, download the generated *.stl file, send Hans a few Euros for all his hard work…
I hope to have another fin base to add to the collection. I can’t get the last operation to work, hoping to have a coworker proof the file so he can laugh at me and show me my mistake.
It will become a lot more user friendly and intuitive with the new web-editor that I’m building. It’s almost ready to deploy, but I have some other higher priority jobs.
About the fin-bases, these will only be added in a later release. Possibly v1.2.
Anyway, I’m always open for interesting collaboration offers. But for now, it’s all about trying to find some spare time to get it out there for free.
