Help.. Builders Guide Sways Donation CD Project

Aloha

I’m putting togethor a builder’s guide CD project for the crew and eventually Mike to use for his benefit but basically it’ll present some online resources including some stellar posts here that are useful for board builders of all types

What I need are links I haven’t been exposed to as well as any posts here that consolidate alot of information in a single post like Berts Vacuum, and fin making as well as Barnfield’s rail post.

Please add them here so I can start putting this togethor and get it off my to do list before I retire.

Some folks here have seen the protoype hopefully including mike

UPDATE:

just as a heads up, the software I’m using only allows for 6 sections of 10 pages each and each page can link to a website, document/file or movie on the CD or server. I’m not trying to re-invent sways here, it’s more of a little personal orgaizer of data than anything else. 60 pages should be enough depending on how it’s structured which is why each link like the ones below should be able to lead you elsewhere as needed. You can’t be everything to everybody but you can be alot…

so here goes… (mahalo)

Here’s my list so far: (updated 1PM HST 03/30/06)

excerpt:

A SURFBOARD ANATOMY

BY DAVE PARMENTER

LONGBOARDS: The garden-variety longboard shape is indisputably the most resilient design in surfing history. A lot of people forget that if the Polynesians hadn’t finally migrated to an island with big enough trees to make their olo boards, we’d probably all still be riding prone on paipo boards. The ancient Hawaiian longboards literally created the sport we know today. The papa nui went on to bridge the ancient and modern eras, and is the only design archetype to have been built with every conceivable material, from koa to redwood to balsa, foam and even sponge. Today, the longboard is back in a big way and more versatile than ever. Often debunked for its “old guy” stigma or “unfair” paddling superiority, the longboard has endured for a millennia for the same reason we all surf - we love the “glide.”

Looks like a great selection! Looking forward to seeing the final cut.

Oneula,

this is a great project! I just started clicking the links you had selected, and I ruined the better part of my afternoon! It was like a trip down memory lane. I had read all of these threads before, but it is amazing how much you can learn by rereading! Berts S curves thread was awesome. The first time I read it, I didn’t understand all of the concepts in it. Left to fumble around on my own for a year, I guess I learned something, because after going back and rereading it I feel like I got 10 times more out of it this time!

Thanks Oneula!! I am stoked!

Scott

Hey Oneula,

Great Idea man! Swaylocks was needing someone with guts to systematize its files. Thanks in advance.

Cool!

Btw, whats a board design & building resource listing without mention of Greg Loehr’s Theory of Balance?

I have the Parmenter Anatomy on my hard drive. I’m not sure what the format is but I’ll try to send it to you.

you know I was trying to find his “Theory of Pitch” document but the link is dead.

Thanks I’ll add those to my list wish I knew of some good long and details glassing/painting/gloss coating threads

I’ll be sure to link the resource collections as well. Some of that stuff inthere is redundant though…

thanks all

Thanks…

I had already extracted and pasted all that into a word document for my archive so I have it…

I wish it was still online though…

kind of the problem using links.

And for those making their own blanks, don’t forget the most up-to-date Clark Catalog (.pdf format) you can get your hands on…

Think I have an updated one from August 2005 kicking around somewhere; I’ll see what I can do.

Great project Oneula. You’re always in it for everybody else. Truly, what I understand the meaning of “aloha” to be.

i got a preview of this disk it is really good.

It may not be my place to post these, as the people directly involved are also here at swaylocks, but I personally found these two articles from www.flexspoon.com to be incredibly informative. Many thanks to Man’O, DaleS, and the ‘other’ George!

Hi Oneula,

This machine is light years ahead of the lot !

I am sure that the ‘penny will drop’ eventually, in the meantime, best wishes for your

project.

shaping by Paul J

Thanks…

I forgot about KR website…It’s agood one especially the stuff about building a profiling machine

Yeah I had a bunch of links to the pipedreams stuff but it’s all gone now…

That’s my fear of using links versus extracting the data to some type of offline file. You can never be sure the links will be around. Like Parmenter’s Anatomy site, surfline took that one down also…

don’t worry roy I got you and paul covered too.

a sways reference library won’t be complete with out it.

Oneula, I have 70 page WORD document with clips of Sways stuff. Just the cream. Just stuff that interested me, but it covers the gamet. I was going to package it for Mike to sell but got busy with my day job. PM me with your email address if you want it and I’ll email it to you. It is pretty well edited, but needs a table of contents.

well that’s what this program is basically…

A fancy interactive table of contents.

should work out great…

check your pm.
