Last August I picked up a used 9’4" Harbour Simms. I am enjoying the increased manuverability, extra tail kick and tighter turning radius that this board has over my others. I also ride a 9’ Driftwood noserider and older 9’ DT noserider. It’s really got me interested in going shorter, but I still want something with some glide to it. I’m 5’6",125lbs and am still a novice. I’ve been surfing a year, usually beach breaks in NJ. I’d like something I can duck dive, that works in bigger surf and that has a little width and thickness to it. The board I’ve picked out for myself is a Weber Pig, 6’6"-6’8" with a nice heavy glass job. Some of the folks on Longboard.net have suggessted I might find this board too squirrely. If I was having one made custom is there any dimension changes I might have tweaked? Is this absolutely the wrong board for me? Any others I should look at before I buy? Thanks in Advance! -Jen http://www.deweyweber.com/surf.htm
Jen, If you are planning to surf bigger waves Id suggest you go with a hybrid shape. To me the Weber Pig that I saw was a bit too thick, and too wide in the tail. You might want to consider something like 7’0", 20-21" wide, 16" nose, 14" tail, 2 5/8" thick, thruster or 2+1 fin set up. You might want to try different types of shorter boards and see which one suits you best before you buy one. Aloha, FD
Maybe try somthing in the mid to high 7’s for a few swells or a couple seasons or whichever comes first in the northeast. As a transition board to ease you into the increased responsiveness. That pig looks cool. That flying pig looks real cool. I have a 67 Weber Performer on my wall.mint.hatchet fin. 9’6".heavy fast and fun.
Thanks for the advise. One of the local shops had a decent sale and I got a 7’6"/21" wide/2.75" thick 2+1 Driftwood at a nice price.
Cant go wrong with anything by driftwood. Loved mine, should never have sold it!
That sounds like a great transition board!
