your head did that?!

No, I pulled into a closeout and popped up to a rogue set wave in the impact zone.

I think she was upside down and backward but all I saw was a nasty lip coming down.

I am thinking about making a half moon, I have never surfed one.

Haha or maybe a swallow tail? This board is a quad if I recall from seeing it on another post right?

Where did you paddle out in SD?

Ya, she is a quadbanger.

I hit blacks about 9, It was dirty but empty and fun.

Ouch! man that sucks. half moon is a good idea + you hardly see them done. make sure you use some PU to build it out so you can put your leash plug in it.

did you get damaged too?

shan

Yikes!

May I suggest pour foam… then you can make it into whatever kinda tail you want

Half moons are fun. I think it would work out pretty well.

Hell of a lumpin it took.

Thanks for the input,

I had a close encounter with a seal but escaped unharmed.

I am new to pour foam, is 2lb ok for the tail?
I assume it is ok hardening onto EPS. Is there any brand that is better?
thanks for any input

Ya she took a big hit.
To top it off when she washed up on the beach the tip of the nose slammed into the only rock on the beach.
The half moon in sounding good.
I will post a pict once I get her tuned up.

I guess it was just meant to be.

If you decide to go the pour foam route, let me know, I’ve got enough 3lb for your tail and your skull…making a border run on Friday morning.

Yeah the pour foam is good on EPS, wont react with it or anything crazy. Might want to go heavier than 2lb though… I tried the stuff with Afoaf that he has, stuck to EPS well and was very shapeable. I got it from some moulding place in N. Hollywood, but check uscomposites.com, they have a whole bunch of different densities… or just use the extra stuff from afoaf, im sure it would do the trick

Cool, thanks fellas.
A pour foam half moon it is.

I see a Half Moon or a Fish Tail without adding any foam. Maybe a five gallon bucket for the outline??? (inline?).

On leash plugs into EPS foam I have been adding glass just like a ProBox install. No big wave tests yet…

I’m in SD north county if you need 2# scraps for your repair.

Ray

WHY don´t you put a tail wood in “V”??

It will be very simple to hide all the imperfections…

Gus, Ray is a good friend to have and he’s in your general neighborhood…we can all learn a thing or two from that guy.

It looks like the wave ripped the leash plug right through the tail of your board, it’s a good idea to install your plug in a high density foam insert to prevent this from happening.

Like someone suggested, you could cut a swallow right to the tip of the plug hole and put a solid timber (like WRC or similar) tail on in then shape to any shape you like.

Then install the leash plug in the timber, shouldn’t pull out then!
