Hi guys! I want to make my own longboard. Could you help me with this: What is the more detailed, step by step video to buy, Shaping 101 or Master Shaping Series? or it´s worth buying both? I´ve read somewhere that the DVD quality of Master Shaping is poor, do you know anything about that? Thanks in advance for any help. “I wanna be a shaper, like Chandler” Zeus
“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step” Don’t be afraid to fail and just do it. Any of the videos mentioned will get you on your way, but it all comes down to you and actually making it happen. So many people I meet want to make their own boards but never do. They are afraid to fail, afraid to put in the time & money (which by the way is not that much), afraid to put in the effort & afraid of what others will think of the end product. F that! “Some men spend their whole lives gathering sticks to build a bridge they will never cross” You have all the info you need from this site (archives). From how to build a shaping rack to how much catalyst to use in your hot coat. The videos will just help tie it all together. Just do it.
I have both videos and both have their own merrit. If I were to choose only one I would go with shaping 101. 101 gives more detail in how to apply all of the steps in shaping a board ie making templets, laying out rail bands, sanding etc. and is pretty straight foward. Shaping Masters covers more in board design and shaping of different types of boards. At times it just dosen’t seem clear enough, because the method which is being discussed and shown is not given in detail. Just my opinion.
If its a longboard you want to shape I would go with Jim Phillips Master Shaper from Damascus.Shaping 101 is cool but its modern shortboard shaping.Good stuff in both of em though. R.B.
Go and try and watch somebody do a board or 2 just watch dont talk remember and take notes, then watch a shaping video it will really tie it all together.
