hey guys i have a hitachi p20sb planner and i need to replace the old bearings with the new sealed bearings. How do i do this is there a special tool needed to take off the belt guide of both of the spindles. It looks like there is some special tool that fits in the two holes on each spindles? Is replacing the bearings a simple procedure? thanks josh
Anyone?
It is the belt pulley and it has lefthand threads, so it comes off backwards. Lock it into a vise (careful not to damage the commutator) and it should come off easily with channel locks. The hard part is removing the bearings without damaging the armatuer, it took a lot of hunting to find a small bearing puller, but eventually I found one at an automotive supply store. Re-installing the new bearings can be done with a small socket and hammer used to drive it back on without damage
