Help spread the word about Crab!!

(sorry if this is up here already)

Two of Irelands best waves are under threat by development from a local council. As it stands, the council are refusing to even meet with the local surf club to discuss the issue. The council are proposing to extend the pier at Doolin, and if they go ahead with their current plans, Doolin point is gone, and its pretty likely that crab will be badly effected as well.

At the moment there is a huge push to get as many names as possible down on a petition just to prove how important  a wave like this is. So PLEASE, take the 20seconds to sign the petition.

The council are saying over 3000 tourist use the current slip every year so we need to be able to go back with a lot more signatures then that for them to even consider listening.

Theres loads more info and photos on theses links (well worth a look, its a very photo friendly wave :slight_smile: )

So please take the few seconds to sign the petition and to pass this onto anyone that you can think of.

To everyone at Sway’s, This is VERY IMPORTANT SH$#!!! This break would blow your mind. Great wave and about as beautiful a setting as one can desire. There is more than one wave at stake here. This is Ireland’s Killer Dana/Honolua/Kirra!!! Click on the links and speak your mind. As we ALL know…once it has gone, it WON’T comeback! Please Vote and take action on this, it will only take a few minutes of your time but what is at stake here is HUGE!!! Think of how you would feel if this was your home break. DO IT!!!

ps. The tourists that use this pier are on chartered boats to the ARAN  islands. There are multiple piers along the coast to launch from. This is just ONE spot! You can always go to the other launches but, there is ONLY THE ONE BREAK!

Petition signed and link posted on Facebook. Already 3080 signatures. I suggest you all do the same…

Atta way Balsa, it’s not difficult to recognize the import here. Sway Bros, if you care to vote for a blog/message board site, take the time to vote here. It could make the difference.

HP,

Is there an e-mail address for the local council/mayor as well. I’d be happy to e-mail them as well. The more the better in ths sort of thing.

Good luck with the struggle.

I signed yesterday (or the day  before - I can't remember). This wave/place is quite special. I visited it some 10 years ago now and would love to go back and surf it some day. As tblank has already said, imagine how it would feel if this were your home break. Please do us all a favour and sign. Thanks.

Cheers

Rohan

Thanks Heaps, PeterG.  And to all those that take the time to care. In the end it’s not just about a break on the other side of the world.

I would have taken notice much sooner if the thread title had indicated an endangered surf spot.

Need your help.

There is a council vote to approve the building of a pier at Doolin, it will
wipe out the waves at Crab Island and Doolin point.

The problem is with a few councillors and employees.

The council is split up in wards and if the councillors from the local ward
are in favour of something the councillors from other wards will vote in favour
of it. Along the lines of “I won’t interfere in your neighbourhood if you don’t
interfere in mine”.

If people from around the world start emailing the councillors it might
help. At least they won’t be able to say they weren’t told. Can you please send
to the below, but remember not all of them are the enemy.

Even if you say, please don’t build the current pier in Doolin, make one that
won’t effect the waves so I can surf there one day  XXXX from … it would be a big help

There’s more information here.

If you are up to it and want to surf Crab Island before it’s gone you better
do it soon. If you like mellower surf that’s lots of that too.

I signed the petition a while back. I also wanted to contact the
council directly, as I was considerig a trip to the Aran Isands from
Doolin, but ths route involves the proposed pier extension.

    * Ennis East Electoral Area
    * Ennis West Electoral Area
