Help trying to restore a 70's single fin

Hello

I just become the owner of a very depressed looking Jim pollock 6’6 single fin pin.

I’m thinking about restoring it what would be the best way to go about it?.

I have managed to repair dings and a couple of busted tails but Ive never been brave enough to start something like this

I would be glad of any tips

It’s hard to help you without any photo of the board…

sorry about the smurf i will try to upload some more pics soon

this looks like body filler

not sure what happened with this repair it wasn’t done by me

not sure how many layers there is on this but it’s very bulky and missed shaped

and the tail is in the same sort of state too but with no cloth

It depends on what you mean by "restore". It's not like a car, there is nothing you can do to make this board look like new again. You can fix all the dings and make it watertight. If you have fixed dings and busted tails before, this is just more of the same, a whole lot more!

You can go all out, fix every ding perfectly, then paint the board. But it won't look like the original, it will look like a Surftech.

By the time you get done with this project, you will be much better at ding repair. Think of it as investing in an education. You will have spent hours and hours in a project that doesn't make sense financially. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it.

I’m trying to avoid paint to be honest i might try a very dark pigment I’ll see how patchy it’s looking once its all sealed

Pick up the "Ding Shop" video from Foam EZ.  My buddy made it and it goes over every aspect of ding repair in it.  Its a real education and a great video for every DIYer.

thanks I will have to check it out

Jim Pollock?  towards the nose it has the unmistakable look of a Jackson Pollack.

 Ha !

Gremmie are you in Au ? If youre close you can use my shed.

Or take it to a repair shop and talk to the guy, listen to what he says and decide if its better/cheaper/smarter to let him do it or see if you can watch while he does it.

A lot of repair guys dont mind the company and genuine questions, but buy him lunch while youre there. If you make a friends he'll give you so many tips that'll save you learning the hard way.
