This is my first attempt at building a board. I didn’t find swaylock’s til i was almost done. I’ve been boogie boarding for the last 25 years, after surfing as a kid for 5 years. Thought i’d try surfing again. anyhow i took the board out today for the first time, and the board doesn’t catch waves. The surf was 1-3 feet semi hollow. I’d start to catch the wave , but it would just roll right by me, I’m thinking its the roll at the tail of the board,(see pics) and i need to sand the middle down to be more even w/ the nose and tail. any comments?
Tom, After staring at the picture that you provided of the bottom of your board, I think that you need to smooth your bottom rocker out a bit. The massive steps in the nose are pushing water in the nose and creating drag in the tail. That would be my best bet to why you are having problems catching waves with your board. A nice smooth continuous bottom curve is what you are looking for. -Carl
Congrats on the board.
Are you in good paddling shape…like you do fine with other boards?
I’d pass on semi hollow 1-3’ waves with WP so far forwards, and fin so far back.
So how does it paddle? Are the steps a hydrofoil design idea?
I’d look for 1-3’ rolling, mushy, slow moving waves. Surf it. Then pass another judgement.
thanx Carl for the idea, thats kinda what I was thinkin also, the humps in the board were supposed to be my rocker, but obviously too pronounced…tom
