help with dimensions for custom griffin board please

im getting a custom from greg griffin. i want a something a little bigger because of age. 42 6’ 180 lbs. so i was thinking 7’4x22x3. is that to wide and thick? the break i usually surf is kinda slow and mushy. but it does get juicy at times. opinions please. thanks

I’m close to 55 yrs

5’8" close to 200lb

and a weekend warrior at this stage in my life

my Griffin is

6’2" x 21" x 3"

Granted it’s a little small

but a modern fish at 6’4"-6’6" with a sharply pulled in nose would be more than enough length for me. In fact I asked him for one just like that in EPS/epoxy recently.

Of course I don’t have to wear a wetsuit

Greg let me borrow his personal 5 fin big boy

and it’s like

7" x 21.5" x 3.15"

and it’s way to big for me

his boards paddle so well you don;t have to build them like you would think

he also puts alot of deck crown in so you can go thicker and still have decent rail thickness.

his boards are meant to ride off the tail especially the 5fins so having all that length and meat will get you funboarditis. Greg will figure it out for you.

Just tell him as much as possible about yourself and surfing…

That’s the most important part of any shaper-rider relationship, the amount of information conveyed and understood.

Why not talk to the man himself? No brainer.

I agree, talk to Greg he is very knowledgeable as to what his designs do. Tell him what you you’ve been riding lately, what you like about it vs what you don’t like, and what you hope to get out of your new board. Are you going with a 5 finner? You won’t regret it.

My GG is 6’4" x 21.5 x 2 7/8 five fin fish, Me 39 6’5" 220. No problems paddling. Great board! I agree with the others, talk with Greg and he’ll hook you up with what you need.
