help with fish fin placement

hey guys , im doing my 4th and 5th boards right now. the first one is a 5’6 retro fish for myself and the second one is a 6’6 retro fish for my very large friend. They will both be twin fins and i would really appreciate any advice on fin placement.

also , on the 6’6 im doing a futures installation for the first time , and when i got my boxes i noticed they have a like curved lip around where the fins go in.Am i supposed to grind this down prior to installation? Im a little nervous about screwing them up so any feedback will be appreciated greatly.thanks in advance guys.

Hey JerseyG,

There is lots of info on fish fins in the archives. Be sure to look there. I line the rear edges up with the end of the butt crack depending on the length of the fin base. Usually around 6 1/2 inches. I line the fins up with the tips which usually puts the rear fin 1 1/4 inches from the rail. I toe in single foiled fins about 1/8 inch and cant them about 2 degrees. I think the Future keels have some cant built into them. Have fun. Mike
