Help with funboard dimensions

Can someone help me out with funboard dimensions? I am a 26 yr old female. I used to ride a 6’2" shortboard back in my high school days. I just recently started surfing again, but I’m looking to have a friend shape a funboard for me. I want a board that is more stable and makes catching waves easier. On the other hand, I still want a board that would allow me to cut and make turns quickly. I was looking at maybe something between 6’10" and 7’0", about 2 7/8" thick, and about 22" wide. Any suggestions? Am I on the right track? By the way, I’m in Southern Florida.

How about 7’0 x 16.5 x 21.5 x 14.5 x 2.875.

i’d go with 7’4" with a wide shape. don’t have any #'s in my head right now. that little extra beef will make it work great for paddling but also handle well in bigger condtions. maybe go with a 2+1 fin setup. having a slide box will enable you to control the way you want to ride…funboards rule!!!

ghunt’s dimentions look good but since your a girl I’d go a bit narrower in the tail. Maybe 13.5-14". Girls have small feet.

How would the narrower tail make the board handle and what is the difference between a 20" wide and a 22" inch wide board as far as handling is concerned?

I’ve shaped a lot of boards for girls and what I’ve found is that they have problems with wide tails. Their feet are smaller (on avaerage) so they don’t have the same leverage to push the rail in the water. Also they tend to be (on average) lighter so they don’t need the wider planing area anyway.

thank you greg

tail width…increasing width, what does it do? decreasing?

Inceasing width slows rail to rail transistion. In other words how quickly you can move the board from one rail to the other. Narrower tails move easier from rail to rail. Girls have smaller feet so they have to have narrower tails. Also they aren’t as heavy so they don’t need tha lift that a wider tail provides.
